Hammes was also literate, intelligent, and skilled in writing verse.
Unfortunately, the Dennis M. Hammes "Scrawlmark Press" pages have been
taken down since his death two years ago, but thanks to the Internet
Archive, most of them remain available:

One thing that seems to have been lost is his last sonnet series, The
Singing Head. He posted some SH sonnets to usenet, and IIRC a couple
to the same website as "Revenge of the Nam" was on, but there's
nothing else I know of left of it.

At least his penultimate series, Sonnets to Euriicye, has been
preserved:

Thanks, George.

See that, SP's?? George takes the time to
post links to the word of Mr. Hammes while
you all whine and complain about the lack
of interest in poetry around here.

Then, you wonder why you simply can't
be trusted to leave a helpful comment
or constructive criticism on aapc.

To top it off, Hammes treated George
like crap, which would've technically made
him an SP. So, you see, George reaches
across the table and tries to help his
opponents. You idiots don't have those
kind of abilities. You're a bunch of whining
nobodies. Try taking a few tips in
the art of getting along with others for a change.
It might do you some good.

Yes, of course you would, and your fluster cluck was its inspiration.
Unfortunately, you came along to show your appreciation just a little
too late. I already gave that poem to George, but if you ask, I'm
sure he'll share it with you. George is just that kind of guy.

Passive aggressive, self-defeatist style arguments are not a healthy
thought habit/way of thinking. It makes you 'feel' like you're
'winning' the argument or something because it provides a quick little
adrenaline buzz when you 'get back' at somebody, and the logic of it
enables you to prove yourself right every time, even though the result
of being 'right' is ... loopy. Hang on, Snoopy. Charlie's comin'.

be more obvious. They're looking for a frickin' "Singing Head" like
anybody else is ever going to know what the fuck that shit really
means now that Dennis has taken the big crap. Oops. I meant nap, of

The Singing Head is the head of some classical figure or others, that
stayed alive after it was cut off his body. Not only alive but
immortal: it ends up in the 20th century on a beach in Australia,
which is where it composes the songs that make up SH.

It does sound frightfully silly, and at one time I considered writing
a parody series, The Giving Head, that rolled around the world ---
well, never mind that, I still might want to write it someday.

The difference to me is this: "The Singing Head" sounds like a guy
singing in the shower, like free and easy, like no worries. "The
Giving Head" sounds like an effort, like begging to have your dick
sucked; like Jewish foreplay.

Consider a Hammes-like reprisal
an edict, like that of King Faisal.
"Put Green Hammes to use,
Or my name ain't Seuss!",
I think he said his name was Geisel.

Yeah, but then again as you know, this sort of thin is hardly new
around here, as this thread from years ago that I'm passing through on
the way to something else shows:

Cythera's there ,ggamble, Karla... even the now-departed Hammes and

Ah, the year-end nostalgia.

Yeah, but then again as you know, this sort of thin is hardly new
around here, as this thread from years ago that I'm passing through on

Cythera's there ,ggamble, Karla... even the now-departed Hammes and
Bishop.
Ah, the year-end nostalgia.
It still doesn't answer any questions on a possible agenda.
IOW, are people STILL trying to get you to leave the group?
Do people still believe they can rehabilitate you, or make
you into one of them?

It's a mystery why people turn to Dockery hounding.
It has yet to be solved. It appears to be a phenomena,
though. So many have taken that helm. However,
if I knew their goals, I might be able to establish
whether they were successful or not. I'm assuming
they weren't, but I can't know for sure. I'm only
going by the fact that you're still here. Usually,
people are trying to drive someone away when
they flame hound them. However, I just don't know if
that's the case with Dockery hounding. It may
be some rare species of respect. It may have
something to do with that supposed large charisma
of yours.

Interesting.

One thing that seems to have been lost is his last sonnet series, The
Singing Head. He posted some SH sonnets to  usenet, and IIRC a couple

Thanks, George.
See that, SP's??  George takes the time to
post links to the word of Mr. Hammes while
you all whine and complain about the lack
of interest in poetry around here.
Then, you wonder why you simply can't
be trusted to leave a helpful comment
or constructive criticism on aapc.
To top it off, Hammes treated George
like crap, which would've technically made
him an SP.  So, you see, George reaches
across the table and tries to help his
opponents.  You idiots don't have those

That may have something to do with something else.
I appear to not be on gambles "people of interest"
list. I'm sure he's got a good explanation as to why
I'm off of it and you're at the top. However, it happens
to be an example of what I'm talking about. Why
on earth would you, someone he dislikes immensely,
be on a "person of interest" list?

Could it be that "person of interest" really means
"person to eliminate"? If that's the case, it strikes
me as rather odd that your impervious nature
sneaks right past him. IOW, if Hammes couldn't
get you to leave the group, nobody can.

Yet, back to my initial inquiry. I'm not really sure
these hounds are attempting to eliminate you.
Who on earth would engage in such an act
of futility on a daily basis unless driven by some
mad purpose? I suppose it's altogether possible
that all of these people are insane, but highly
unlikely. Many of them seem to be pretty intelligent.

Yet, if they're as intelligent as all of that, why
do they waste so much time engaging in such
trivial matters as trying to get one person to
leave an open forum online? Surely, with all
of their intelligence, they don't believe that if
you leave, you're not going to be replaced by
someone just like you: resilient, obstinate,
prideful, and unrelenting. It would be the
same as you believing that if they left, others
wouldn't fill their shoes as Dockery hounds.

It's an ongoing mystery. I wish someone else
would chime in with some useful insight on
this. I believe it's worth the time considering
how many countless hours "intelligent" people
have spent Dockery hounding online.

Will, you and your questions. I just can't read them anymore. You
give me a headache.

I feel like I'm sitting in my livingroom, and you just came trapsing
through in muddy boots, dragging some old party posters for an
election that is long, long, long over. I appreciate all your hard
work during the campaign, and you're welcome any time. I'm sure I can
find a job for you around here someplace, but friend, you've just got
to keep your nose out of my cabinets. It's impolite. You can have
anything you want; but you have to ask first. Other than that, please
take of your shoes and make yourself comfortable; and go get me a
couple of aspirin, please. They're in the cupboard in the guest
bathroom. Thanks.

I'm amused by the idea that because Dunce can't find something on the
Internet, it doesn't exist.

I'm also amused by Dunce and Dreckery's simulated respect for somebody
who detested both of them just as much as all other literate
contributors to Usenet do.

simulated respect for somebody
detested
"We know.", as you've repeatedly announced dozens of times over the
"Indeed", as Marg would write, plenty of it, more than could possibly
be quoted here.

Just a quick Google of "PJR" + "Hammes" brings up a few immediate
examples:

http://newsgroups.derkeiler.com/Archive/Rec/rec.arts.poems/2005-11/msg00355.html
Post by Peter J Ross
"...Above all, he tries to be *clever*, and exhibits no shame when
shown to be stupid instead. I realise that I may be in a minority in
thinking that *Mr* Hammes is merely an ignorant screedbomber [...]
why /does/ *anybody* /still/ *read* /his/ *pompous*, /self/-
*glorifying* /dreck/? And the lying toad is still pretending to be a
Litt.D. on his websitein order to sell his clueless, error-strewn
tracts and Procrustean sonnets, even after admitting on Usenet that he
awarded the Litt.D. to himself..." -PJR
That's quite a revisionist leap to today's: "Hammes was also literate,
intelligent, and skilled in writing verse.", eh?
hmmm- sounds like Ross is the johnny-come-lately
of praise toward Hammes.
That takes balls: =A0wait until someone is dead to praise his
work.
Well, the archives go on and on, making it very clear that PJR had
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.arts.poetry.comments/msg/72a9d844d...
"...Why Hammes himself came here is a mystery. You could count the
number of intelligent comments he's made in reply to poems on the
fingers of one
hand, and his opinions on poetry and literature in general, not to
mention music, politics and in fact everything (since he has to poke
his snotty little nose into *every* thread) are as laughable [...]
he's gone loopy since he was exposed as a pathetic liar who thought
he'd gain credibility by pretending to have an advanced
university degree. The transformation into a stinking pool of racist
cracker-slime..."
Again, that's quite a revisionist leap to today's: "Hammes was also
literate, intelligent, and skilled in writing verse.", eh?
It goes on and on, but that gives the basic idea of PJR's opinion of
Dennis M. Hammes.
I'm going to be lighting a candle for Mr. Hammes this
Christmas. =A0I remember that time very well. =A0He is
missed even though I think he was misguided inside.
That doesn't take away the fact that he had a lot
to share when he felt like sharing his wealth of knowledge.
"What he /sEd/." -Dennis M. Hammes

Kind lovers, love on,
Lest the world be undone,
For if all from their loves
Should go wander in groves,
There soon would be nothing but trees.
-- John Crowne
John Crowned
We returned from the groves
In our driblets and droves
All repenting of scribbling squibs,
And as lovers loved on.
Now the world is undone
For the trees are all cut to make cribs.
-- Dennis M. Hammes
Do you have the permission of the current copyright owners of Mr
Hammes' writings to reproduce his work here?
Interesting question... I wonder who does own the copyrights to Dennis
Hammes' hundreds of poems, now?
