Springtime and the birds are laughing... here's one of mine from the
1990s about some favorite birds I once knew on a Spring afternoon on
the campus of the Phenix City college where I was waiting on my
beloved of the day:

Bird Rhythm

Climbling that hill.
Through the side of the campus.
Queenie climbs that hill often, I've never been there before.

Like a fractal, everything is connected,
reading the words of God in nature, and icons.
People walk by in a beautious parade made in Jah's image,
of color of sight and sound.

People of all kinds in and out of the library,
a strong rain wind is blowing up high in the air.
A sky plane goes by cutting in the sound barrier,
probably stirred up the mix so the love caint get through.

A giant black ant has come to great me,
he said he thinks that God might be green.
He wanders across this ancient concrete.
I miss my friends down in rainbow dreamtown.

I hear the sounds of people talking,
as they walk on the other side of the tree.
I hear the dumb roar of haints echoing from some past time.
Golden glow of God coming through silver mist clouds,
awake, village idiot.

The light falls down on this page as I write, I feel like I am
the idiot savant who is spoken to by God,
he said just "follow the lighted path."
I want to see you, speak with you,
and in the green leaves before me I can see your runes.

Spelling words in the forest leaves behind CVCC library,
as I have seen before, clover runes on the side of the highway,
letters framed by distant dead trees on a horison.
One bird, behind me is making a song, a solo,
this bird is singing avant garde jazz...

Two more in front of me start up,
with a bird rhythm reminds me of the folksinging lady.

Looks like you're the one who can't take it. That's why you felt you
had to "<snip!>" censor the word BITCH, bitch.

That's the neat thing about titles: You don't need my fucking
permission.

I know, but that's just the way I am... I believe in giving credit
where due, whether it is legally required or not.

You can't. I stole the title from somewhere else, so you can't give
credit to me.

I don't deal in self-flattery, I just do what I do & will continue to... for
the long haul.

If I was your friend, you wouldn't feel the need to keep calling me
"pal"; our friendship would be understood. If I was your friend, it
wouldn't matter what I call you, bitch, dickwad, whatever, because
you'd know it was meant with humor and love. You are a moron, but I
mean that in the nicest, most lovingly instructive way imaginable, if
you can imagine that, which I doubt, because you're a moron.

<more insults snipped>

Sure it would.

As a matter of fact, since I do consider you a friend you'll note that
the strongest, or closest thing to an insult I've even directed at you
was comparing you to Tom Bishop, which isn't really an insult but
rather a comparison to someone who was also my friend.

In that case I don't like it quite as much.

LOL!! You should like it MORE!! Read the link to the Homeless Haints

compliments the writer of that blog whether he ever finds out that you
used his title or not.

It's a title. It's not stealing. If it was really stealing, it would
be illegal, a violation of copying rights, right?

Well you were the one who wrote "I stole the title from somewhere
else..."

I also stole a nap while you weren't looking, and stole my wife's
heart decades ago. There is no ethical or legal violation to your
using the title. Of course, you don't have to do anything you don't
want to do.

I understand all that, really, I do.

Yeah, well "haints" is an important word in my "mythos", as it was a
term my grandfather used, but I might see tinkering with "homeless",
since for one thing I already have "Little Homeless Clown".

That's exactly what should make it all the more valuable to you in
terms of associating different pieces of your work one to another; it
draws from different sources. It encourages readers/listeners to make
connections to and between your work they might otherwise not have
made.

That's why I called you a bitch, bitch. Can't ever admit you're
wrong, but will ever so begrudgingly say "I can see that aspect..."

Why blame me? Where does that get you? What's with the constant "I
know you are, but what am I" shit? Grow the fuck up already, moron.
You see what you want to see, and respond how you want to respond.
We've been through this. If you want to see pink unicorns in what I
write, I can't prevent it. If you want to feel threatened by text,
feel threatened by text, but you certainly can't convince me or anyone
else that I'm something I'm not. I wish you'd stop trying and figure
out how to like yourself a little, but I can't tell you what to do.

That's why I called them *fantasy* threats of violence, and of course
you're back on the name-calling already with this thread.

Not at thing, but you sure seem to have a problem with me... I think
it is jealousy, as you once confessed?

1. That's a contrivance, not a question. 2. You flatter yourself
too much.

An old one from 1997 I found in my drafts, still worth a read I think.

Comments, et cetera welcomed:

Autumn in the Deep South and the birds are laughing... here's one of mine
from the
1990s about some favorite birds I once knew on a Spring afternoon on
the campus of the Phenix City college where I was waiting on my
beloved of the day:
